My heart dropped out of my chest at the sight of these leather crepe sole boots from The Gap. And for a mere $13, I also had to pick my jaw off the floor. Cons? They're a little scuffed and two different sizes. Pros? They were $13. And because they add a good 3 inches to my height, I can finally get on all the big kid amusement park rides.

It's pretty much synonymous with breathing - I don't leave the house without some sort of chunky, pointy, beaded bauble on. Some might call it a sick disease, but I call it a deep, profound love. Maybe it's the fact that I can't stop saying the word, enunciating every syllable until I've pretty much butchered it, but I've got peplum on the brain people. It's a simple little detail that demands its own name, not to mention does it ever perk up an ordinary dress. Pretty, delicate and feminine - is it wrong that I want to sew some extra frilly fabric on to everything I own right now? Don't answer that - just let the magic happen.

Just purchased my first maxi skirt from Forever 21 ($14.50) in the royal blue colour. NBD. Super cute and super cheap considering I still live like a student a year after graduation (frugality at its best what can I say). Still frightened to death about how to wear it/worried about whether or not I will trip and fall on my face but I'd love to hear your suggestions and comments about how to wear it.

For the mean time though, it will sit in my closet - mocking me for being vertically challenged.

My Closet Full of Multi Nail Colours

I have a serious addiction to nail polish. There, I said it. What started out as a simple curiosity borrowing my mother's Revlon go-to colour literally spiraled out of control over a period of 12 years into a dedicated shelf of space full of nail polish. Ashamed? Hardly. Waste of money? Don't think so. I'm really rather proud of the mini spa I've created for myself. And if I get bored of Essie's Really Red, that's just fine, because I'll throw on a little Sally Hansen Mint Sprint to change it up.

Because changing your wardrobe multiple times a day might weird out the people you see on a regular basis, changing your nail colour won't - it's the ultimate accessory to any outfit you put on. Unless of course, that person has serious chirophobia (I've been dying to use this word, it means people who are afraid of hands - coincidence that I chose to write about nail polish after learning the meaning of this word? About 40%).

I'm still recovering for the copious amounts of sugar and amazing home cooked food I had this weekend - I think I'm still in a deep food coma and it definitely doesn't help that I'm continuously eating leftovers either... Needless to say, I hope every one of my lovely followers had a great Easter weekend!

Don't worry though, I promise this won't be another food blog (although I am currently eating and this could quickly change pace...)

I am absolutely in love with chunky statement jewelry - the bigger, the better, so bring on the obnoxiously bold beads and massive loud charms because I am ready to rock them.

Don't be afraid to pump up your super cute outfit with a bold piece of jewelry - adding a simple necklace or even a chic pair of vintage earrings to your wardrobe can really make your outfit stand out.

Brightly colored bottoms have pretty much stolen my heart. I have to admit though, I am extremely apprehensive in slipping into a pair of bright red pants but I do find myself day dreaming about it an awful lot. However, anyone that knows me, knows that I am a huge sucker for color - sometimes I feel like an advertisement for a children's mid-afternoon T.V. show that's how loud my outfit is.

Totally kidding.

So if I can just move all that loud colorful focus downward maybe I can get on board with this trend?

Mastering The Headband

I have a really great friend Y that absolutely adores headbands. The bigger the better. I'm talking ornate jewel patterns and incredibly large flora that would bring shame to even the biggest rose in Martha Stewart's garden. The thing is, they look absolutely fabulous on her and I'm quite envious. I seem to have one of those heads that are in between sizes - headbands either squeeze my temples or end up sliding off much to my dismay. Observe:

One time I was so desperate to make one stay on I even bobby pinned it - yes, I admit, it wasn't my finest moment. As you can see, I only own about three, and they will only ever see the light of my bathroom, as I use them to keep my bangs off my face when I wash it.

So of course I'm going to be super envious of you if you can pull off a great looking headband. They're the perfect solution for dressing up even when you don't feel like it. There are so many cute styles out there that it's pretty much taking all of me to stop myself from purchasing them. All I have to do is look at these photos to remind myself next time.

Things I Didn't Know Existed in Eastern Canada

I'm a Vancouver girl through and through - I miss the mountains, I complain about the weather when it gets below 5 degrees, and the beaches just don't compare. Nevertheless, I am in love with Toronto - there's something exciting about this city and there's always something to do. Recently though, with the occasional bout of homesickness, I've discovered the hidden western wonders scattered throughout Toronto (or maybe not so hidden and more so 'I haven't ventured past a ten block radius from where I live to actually know that these places existed outside of my home province') and they've made me incredibly happy. So happy in fact, that when I stumble upon these treasure troves, the little Vancouver girl inside of me does a crazy dance - a crazy dance that sometimes comes out in a very public arena.

1) COBS Bread - Probably the best chocolate croissant I've ever had hails from this little bakery. And I nearly had a heart attack when I stumbled across the one in The Annex - and then googled COBS to discover they have at least 13 locations in Toronto. Drool.

2) Earls Restaurant - I love their margaritas - especially when accompanied with gorgeous weather and a patio. This ritzy restaurant is scattered all over Vancouver, but it's only a matter of time for them to pop up all over Toronto. Drinking a pitcher of sangria with my good friend A definitely brought up feelings of nostalgia, and it's safe to say that I will be back there for more.

3) Really, REALLY Good Dim Sum - I think growing up on asian food has made me sort of a snob when it comes to eating it - I am really, really picky about it. That being said, I think Toronto is one of the best locations for asian cuisine. Seriously, all you can eat sushi every couple of blocks and all day dim sum? I'm in heaven.

This post is definitely all about food and I apologize (I'm clearly starving right now), but I do promise to share my favourite fashion boutiques soon enough. Or as soon as I venture out of this 10 block radius.

Orange You Glad It's Almost Summer?

Not everyone's favourite colour, I'm not exactly sure why I'm so gaga about orange. Maybe it's because just one look at its sunny complexion makes me think about margaritas and 20 degree weather. Or maybe it's because I'm currently wearing pale orange as I write this post. Either way, I get the serious warm and fuzzies when I'm surrounded by this fab colour. The same warm and fuzzies I get when I get a new pair of shoes. And that's some serious warm and fuzzies people.

Nothing says "get me out of this cold weather and onto a beach" better than the sun kissed glow you get from the new illuminator NARS cosmetics. I should know - I got a trial tube of it and it's almost done. Sigh. Available online at Sephora. $29.

American Apparel Rounded Diamond Fishnet Tights
I have what could be deemed as an unhealthy obsession with tights. And right now I'm definitely going through a very dangerous 'patterned tights' phase in my life. Needless to say, I am in love with these fishnets from AA. Available at American Apparel. $24.

As you've probably noticed, I've changed the layout of Pleats again, probably due to the fact that I'm extremely bored and indecisive most of the time (but also, please let me know which banner and layout you like more because I love feedback!). I digress. For this month's WANTED, we're discussing shoes. More specifically, beautiful, beautiful ankle boots. Not quite a pump but with all the function of a boot, these multi-purpose heels are something I've been coveting for a while. And I've included a lovely Photoshop collage (they're about the only thing I can do right on Photoshop) of my personal fashion favorites floating around the internet - ranging from budget friendly to the more yeah, I just took on a second mortgage to pay for these babies but they are so worth it.

Things I've Noticed Now That I Live in Toronto...

I've heard of these mythical Canada Goose jackets/vests/puffer-bomber hybrids but ever since I've moved to the big city of Toronto, it seems like everyone is sporting one of these expensive babies. I'm not exaggerating. A basic parka retails for more than $500 times the 15 people I've seen today sporting one and that's practically almost two years of university tuition. No joke. I seriously don't understand the fascination with these down-filled jackets. Yes, ok, I understand they'll keep you warm, but compared to places like Ottawa or Winnipeg, Toronto doesn't even register on the cold scale. And for $500, couldn't they at least be a little cuter? I mean they're kind of an eye sore... And while I know and am fully aware that I am ranting, I think I'm doing everyone a favor when I say that if you're thinking about investing in one of these expensive pieces, you best be heading to the arctic for a really, really long time.

Listen. I'm all about paying for quality, especially when investing in a great garment for years to come. But when you've found yourself casually browsing the aisles at Zara with your really good friend J who pretty much lives and breathes the European label, it's hard not to fall in love with the wallet-friendly chain store. So imagine my surprise as I'm sifting through customer created piles of $19.99 cardigans to find a gorgeous animal print cardigan made from angora. I'm sorry, ANGORA for $19.99?? What a steeaaaaaaaal. Needless to say I'm still reeling from such an amazing purchase as I've been wearing it every day since I got it last week. Don't judge.

While out on the town for dinner and catching up with old friends, I received an email from a complete stranger. And while not completely out of the ordinary, it caught me off guard because the girl writing the email had followed my progress from my internship and found me on Twitter and Facebook. Explaining that she wasn't a stalker, she had nothing but kind words and advice as having dabbled in the industry herself. I'm not going to lie, because after months of struggling and trying to figure out my life, out of no where I find myself realizing that what I'm doing is bigger than myself. Inspiring people and pushing them to do what I love has become so much more than covering a show or profiling a new store. Not to mention, it's a tiny little boost for my ego as well.

Let's be honest - who actually keeps their new year's resolution? To say that you're actually going to follow through and maintain a goal for an entire year is completely ridiculous - especially if you have the attention of a five year old like me. Seriously, the number of times I've tried and utterly failed to complete That's why I've opted for more of a... short term plan if you will. Bet you'll never guess what good ol' numero uno is.

1) Update more often. I know I keep saying that, but this time things will be different. I promise.
2) Cook more creative and inspiring dishes. Now I'm not talking a la Julie and Julia here because who has time to re-create an entire cook book, but definitely outside the box. Something like croissants. Or paella. Or paella in a croissant...
3) Have more patience. I think it's safe to say that when it comes to patience, a three year old would win over me.
4) Enjoy life. And the newest fashion trends for 2011.

Do-able, I think. To all of my lovely and faithful followers, have a Happy New Year's and I hope that you're able to stick to all your resolutions/plans/list/bullet points/scribbled and jotted down side note this year.

And while blaming my internship really isn't going to solve things, hopefully this post of things that inspire me this month (or what's left of it) will inspire you all not to be lazy (unlike some of us...okay okay, just me).

Oh Lanvin, your dresses make me weak in the knees. And then I nearly fainted when I found out you did a collection for H&M...

Sequins are the best friend to a girl who can't afford diamonds...or maybe that's just what I tell myself because I can't afford diamonds. I have to stop myself from picking up sequined everything when walking into a store, I think I might have an obsession. But what better way to stand out at a Christmas party than you dazzling in sequins? The answer? Nothing. Unless of course you have diamonds...

If you don't own a chunky knit sweater, seriously, get one. Winter's coming and not only will they keep you warm, but they look oh so great with some skinny jeans. In fact, I'm wearing one right now...

I'm still debating whether or not I can even pull off this Russian Red lipstick by MAC, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming about it. Literally, I had a dream about buying lipstick...subliminal messaging much?

I Survived Toronto Fashion Week

Yes, that's right ladies and gentlemen. I survived alive and in tact with nothing more than minor injuries that involved four-inch stilettos and my poor feet. And if you asked me to describe my experience, all I would have to say is wow. Never in my life have I had the chance or even been given the opportunity to go to something on such a grand level. On assignment for BlogTO, I had the privilege of sitting front-row at two shows - BASCH by Brandon Dwyer and Baby Steinberg and attending two other fashion shows, one for Sarah Stevenson and the other for The Paddock by Carrie Hayes. Seriously, me, front row. And after hours upon hours of absorbing garment and gown, fabric and ruffle, I can honestly say that I am even more addicted to fashion than I was before. Like I'm talking "put me in a fashion addicts anonymous class because I am never going to let go of this Chanel bag" addict. Are You There God? It's Me, Shareen...

Ok so, I will not freak out. But seriously. It's less than 24 hours until I have to be at four shows for Toronto Fashion Week. Less than 24 hours that I need to complete the 20 daily fashion posts for my internship. Less than 24 hours to complete a rough draft of my article for my internship. And a little more than 24 hours to write four more articles about Toronto Fashion Week. Oh, and then somehow manage to show up to work at 9 am on Friday without falling asleep while folding sweaters and blouses of the sort.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining by any means. In fact, I'm actually super excited. How often is it that a regular girl like me gets to go to Fashion Week and do something that I love? But if someone wants to come over tomorrow and be my personal assistant/help me get dressed so I don't look like an idiot in front of media/models/buyers etc., then by all means, who I am to stop you? No takers? I don't blame you.

Eye Spy With My Little Eye...

Now I know readers, that most of you will probably hunt me down for saying this, but I love fall. Because fall means winter is coming and yada yada. But there's something about the air and the leaves and...oh I don't know, I honestly find it spectacular. It's my first fall without having to go back to school and I must say it's refreshing. Although I'm not too thrilled about having to pay bills, I must say making it on my own in the big city is extremely exciting. Don't worry my fellow readers, I'm pretty much done boring you with the details of my life so I'll move onto what you really came here to read - fashion.

Finding what to write about at work sometimes can be extremely challenging, especially when I just want to crawl back into bed. However, I was looking for something to write about for designer eyewear and came across this amazing lookbook by Ksubi:

It's ok. I already know what you're thinking. Coolest campaign ever. The greatest part has got to be that fantastically creepy eyeball strategically placed in a couple of the ads. I mean please! What's not to love? The simplicity of the accessories and the serious facial expression just draws all the attention straight to Ksubi's eyewear. Perfection. Yes, I know. I've committed the number one cardinal sin of blog writers every where: not posting every day. But I swear I have an excuse. You see, moving to a brand new city and starting a new internship has to grant me some leeway from my readers, right? Ok, ok, maybe not. So I'll make this quick and painless, and then I promise to be better. I've never in my life had to know so much about men's fashion. I swear. My head is spinning over the last month at my internship absorbing messenger bags, chinos, skinny ties and I am in love. Don't get me wrong, I will never ever give up my passion for beautiful dresses and bold patterns, but I can definitely appreciate a man in chukka boots. Lord help me if I ever run into a man wearing bold patterns and chukka boots.

Inspirational menswear is increasingly becoming the go-to staple for the every-day woman. From boyfriend blazers to pleated, high-waisted pants, menswear has dominated collections for a handful of seasons now. Marc Jacobs' ready to wear collection for Fall/Winter '10 caught my eye as his use of rich browns, greys and caramels ooze sophistication and professionalism while maintaining femininity. Jacobs is the quintessential womenswear designer in my opinion; his use of structure and rigidity in his tailoring are not to be outdone by the elegance and playfulness he incorporates in every design.

However, because I am still pinching pennies and clipping coupons, Uncle Marc will have to wait until I'm..oh I don't know...out of student-debt slash being waited on by Calvin Klein models. Though it is nice to see that chain stores such as H&M and American Apparel are offering a more budget-friendly approach to the menswear look. Honestly the last thing I need right now is more clothes. My closet is just one boyfriend blazer away from vomiting all my precious garments onto the hardwood floor and all I can think about is how I need those American Apparel high-waist pleated pants in sage. It's not a problem by any means, because unlike an addict I can control my cravings for fashion. Sometimes. At the same time I do think it's a slight problem when I spend most of my time dreaming about what to purchase next and how to wear it. And right now it's those pants. And some crazy patterned leggings. And possibly a gray blazer. And maybe a cream one. The only question now is how do I put these items into my closet without drowning in a sea of fabric...hmmm.

Thrifty Purchases

Going to a thrift store has always proven to be tedious to me. I have problems with stores that don't have uniformity in the clothing they sell (don't even get me started on Winners) and trust me, it all stems down to the fact that I am indeed an impatient person. There, I admitted it. So you can imagine why I was hesitant about going to Value Village yesterday in an attempt to find the perfect jean jacket to wear with my adorable summer dresses. After unsuccessfully milling through the 'light jackets' section for about 30 minutes, I wandered over to the 'blazers' section and found the most gorgeous, royal blue, boyfriend blazer; a $9 steal! I'm literally still going through all the amazing outfit possibilities through my head and it's been a full 24 hours since I acquired said jacket. Suffice to say, I still am not a fan of thrift stores, but I will give them a chance if they're going to gift me ever so often with such great finds. Seriously though, I'm thinking that this issue with uniformity in stores may mean I have a slight case of OCD. Or that I like things organized. Obviously the second. Obviously.

Out With The Old and In With The New

Making considerable changes to your wardrobe isn't the easiest I've discovered. In vain, I've tried desperately to become more edgier and office-chic rather than the free-flowing, floral patterned wild child that I am. I can't help it; I have an obsessive, animalistic attraction to beautiful beautiful patterns and bright colours that scream at me from store windows. And now that I'm officially done school *rip-roaring applause*, I should be leaning towards staple pieces aka boring, bland suit pieces that will last me life times yada yada yada. I mean, in this day and age, as long as you look good and wear appropriate pieces, why should it matter that you're not wearing a suit? And with all the beautiful pieces of fashion constantly being cranked out on the runways, why should I be forced to wear something as uncomfortable as a suit?! I literally have panic attacks when thinking of wearing itchy, unbearably uncomfortable suits and giving up my wardrobe; something I've worked tirelessly at building. Nevertheless, I will not argue that a suit is the classic, iconic piece every working woman should own, but I feel that at my age, why should I? Actually, that's probably the reason why I am currently without a career. I'm clearly a victim of fashion racism.

Branching Out

For the most part I've been zeroing in on Canada's capital for fashionable trends and treasure troves but a good friend of mine recently brought my attention to CORS, a delightful little boutique in the heart of Toronto. AMTI's Annual Fashion Showcase

On Saturday, I had the privilege of being invited to Angie's Models and Talent International showcase at the Ottawa War Museum hosted by Angie Sakla-Seymour herself. Several prominent designers, (including my boss, Rachel Sin) were all on deck to lend their designs to the runway that evening. What I liked about the event was two-fold. First, the atmosphere of the event was electric. Besides sitting across several representatives from Ford and Wilhelmina Models (intimidating to say the least and made me a tad bit starstruck even though I have no desire to be a model whatsoever!), everything about the event made me giddy with delight. The music, lighting, people and energy made the entire evening magical. It could have also been the fact that I had been a fashion show 'virgin' but nevertheless I was trying very hard to keep my mouth closed and off the floor in awe. After all, I am trying to do a job. However starstruck I may be. Secondly, I loved that Angie's showcase incorporated every single one of her models, including the most adorable little boys and girls that I've ever seen.

Also, I had a VIP pass people. VIP. Never in my life have I been considered VIP. Amaziiiiiing.

I loved the use of colour throughout every designer's collection. Bright patterns and colours seemed to be the universal theme of the night, including fierce cuts, tailored-to-a-tee designs and billowing gowns worthy of Oscar De La Renta himself.

Pictures to come soon but I can't promise they'll be Picasso-worthy. I literally snapped them off my I-Phone whilst taking pictures for Rachel, trying to capture models walking 50 miles per hour and picking my jaw off the ground from being in amazement. Seriously those all happened.

Summer Trend Alert: The High Split

With summer comes sun, beach faux-pas and bad tan lines. It also means great new summer trends. The high dress split is currently a Hollywood trend that most style bloggers and fashionistas have trouble agreeing on. I however, find the high split daring yet elusive. I mean obviously you need KILLER legs to pull of this trend but hot damn if you can pull of this trend, do so. Most fashion moguls are calling the high split the new "seductive skirt", alluding to the idea that the high split is playful and flirtatious but all the while maintaining the lady-like elegance of the evening gown. It's Bond girl meets Audrey Hepburn; and what bad girl didn't want to be Audrey Hepburn at one point in her life? Check out the latest runway designs of the high split below.

Make Do With What You Have

Let's be honest, living in Ottawa is not the easiest place to become exposed to fashion and the industry. And although Ottawa is slowly making progress in the fashion world, (aka Ottawa Fashion Week), it's still a newbie in the long list of major cities that have made a mark in fashion. With that being said, don't be so quick to write off Canada's capital. Two up-and-comers, Rachel Sin and Yolande Deschenes, both have had the privilege of seeing their sketches come to life on the runway during Ottawa Fashion Week. Both use very different techniques; Rachel is more structured and business oriented, more suitable for a cocktail party or that office meeting at Elle. Yolande's designs are more free flowing and flirty, perfect for a fun party or any occasion that calls for you to dress up. It is undeniable though that both are amazing and talented ladies and I am lucky to have the privilege of working with both of them in the near future which is very exciting! I've included a couple of my favourites from their spring/summer '10 collections. Be sure to check them out.

Star Light Star Bright

With summer just around the corner and fashionistas every where anxiously waiting in anticipation to whip out those gladiators and beach attire, it's time to take a look at the top trends of Spring/Summer '10. More specifically, I am loving the focus on bright whites this season, and everyone from Ralph Lauren to Proenza Schouler has their own take on this fashion trend. Think clean, crisp lines with a soft, romantic feel for summer; ethereal if you will. And if you can't afford to dish out the funds for these designer duds, there are plenty of affordable stores jumping on the bright white band wagon.

Yet another post craving a current fashionable item. This time, it's those darn Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. I know, I know, they've been popular since forever and they received more attention last summer with cheaper imitations being made available to the public, but I want them anyways. I have a super cheap dollar store version that I've been toting around, but let's be honest, unless they actually say "Ray Ban" physically on their delicate little frames then I'm not interested. And yes this makes me a label whore. But then again, what fashionista isn't?

Aritzia is probably my favourite if not one of my top five stores. Originally started in Vancouver as a branch of The Hills department store, it is now a very successful franchise with stores all over Canada and even a few in the United States. Suffice to say, I probably have, oh, 30 or 40 different items from Aritzia, most of them stemming from the Wilfred line, which is my absolute favourite. Which is why I probably jumped for joy when they announced their newest collection, Little Moon. Love the name, it's very twilight-esque and reminiscent of a romantic, moonlight stroll...or maybe that's just me :) Either way, Wilfred's new line looks amazing, I've included a couple of my favourites below and will definitely be checking out Aritzia very soon.

NUDE NAIL COLOUR! Honestly, if I were to try and pull this season's nail colour off, I would look very ill. It pains me that I'm not able to do so, as I usually am the first person to jump on the latest trends, eager to try them out. In general, I'm a huge fan of OPI nail colour, so naturally I'm going to suggest OPI's Makes Men Blush nail polish featured below (see www.opi.com for more information). And seriously, if you're able to pull off this trend, I suggest you do so! And then take pictures of just your hands so I can pretend that they're mine...sigh

Fashion Fever

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of working backstage at a local fashion show during Ottawa Fashion Week. It was my first ever fashion show and let me tell you, if you're expecting the glamourous life of Whitney Port or Lauren Conrad off The Hills, then you are sadly mistaken. After setting up banners, balloons and making sure models were sent directly to make-up and hair, I spent hours running around making sure girls were dressed and managed to sneak in a quick hello to my wonderful friends who were kind enough to spare the evening off to support the show. Backstage was, for lack of a better word, chaotic. Models everywhere, hair dressers running around with curling irons and various other random people who I didn't dare to ask what their position was. Needless to say, it was an exhilarating experience. Running my fingers through delicate, one-of-a-kind garments was the most amazing feelings in the world...I can't even explain it. It's like the thrill of opening your first Barbie as a child or finding out you've been accepted into University...it's indescribable. Let's just say I have more respect for the girls off The Hills now than I ever did before.

Spring! Spring! Spring!

Spring is in the air people and as a lover of warm weather, I am beyond thrilled to bust out the skirts, dresses and leggings that have so patiently waited in the back of my closet. However, because of my disposition (aka living in the cold North aka Canada), I think I've prematurely made the decision to whip out my 3/4 length leggings because I'm freezing currently. Ah well, at least I look good.

To Be or Not To Be...A Stylist

Trying to break into the fashion world isn't easy, it's just common knowledge. Luckily for this fashionista, I have an amazing friend who is currently one of the editors for the online fashion magazine The Dinner Jacket. Started in Ottawa by two driven girls who felt that there needed to be more fashion in the capital, The Dinner Jacket was launched and has over 100,000 fans worldwide. Now where do I fit in? Speaking to E, the amazing friend that she is introduced me to the world of styling when it was all merely a dream and distant thought in my head. Finally, last Saturday, I was able to participate as a stylist to an upcoming feature in the next issue. Here are the pictures I managed to snap with my phone:

Fashionistas, one accessory I absolutely cannot live without would be my scarves. Winter scarves, fashion scarves, even head scarves, it is undeniable that a scarf can make any outfit look that much more fantastic. Suffice to say that although it is winter and I am undoubtedly limited to looking fabulous AND keeping warm, I absolutely adore my American Apparel circle scarf in olive pictured above. Valued at only $34 can, this nifty piece of fabric can be worn a variety of ways, not to mention is great at keeping me warm in -20 weather. Now if only they made ALL my winter wear...

Staying fashionable (and warm!) in the middle of winter

Is this even possible? To this fashionista, the words "fashionable" and "warm" cannot belong in the same sentence. When that -40 weather strikes, run for cover, preferably under some cashmere blankets next to a roaring fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Winter fashion usually consists of hideous snow boots, puffy coats and god-awful toques worn more for protection rather than style. This fashionista wants to know if there actually is a way to not sacrifice warmth for fashion and I think I've found a couple of great ideas:

Oversized sweaters:

Take a note from Kim Kardashian here and try the oversized sweater. Wrap a belt to create a waistline and you've got a perfect winter-ready outfit to brave the bitter cold in. Photo courtesy of kimkardashianfan.net

Ear muffs:

The circle scarf:

A snazzy little invention by American Apparel, the circle scarf can not only be worn for warmth, but also as a dress, skirt and many other variations. There you go fashionistas! Just a couple of ways to keep you warm and stylish at the same time. However, if all these fail, I suggest option A(see above for how to run and hide from Jack Frost).

With the season coming to an end and the promise of new, fashion-forward trends for 2010 upon us fashionistas, let us take a look at some of the trending topics that defined 2009:

Over-the-knee boots:

Huge trend of '09, these style-savvy thigh-highs stomped onto the fashion scene all over the catwalks. Versatile yet reminiscent of a dominatrix, these over-the-knee boots can be worn with almost anything. Pairs great with that LBD or take notes from Rihanna here who chose to wear them with a sweater dress. Sequin everything:

Sequins aren't just for the 1920's flapper anymore. Making a huge come-back in not only dresses and skirts, sequins are starting to re-vamp the legging and even bedazzling the likes of an old boyfriend blazer. Fashionistas beware; if you're going to try the sequin dress, make sure to tone down everything else. Flashback to the 80's fashionistas? Though not as rigid and structural as the square shoulder-pad, the newly updated bold shoulder hit the '09 runway demanding attention. Leather chic:

Though somewhat a repeat of the previous season with the reinvention of the leather jacket, leather, like sequins, are transforming into statement pieces themselves. Leather shorts, skirts and yes, those feminine biker chic jackets were back in full force this fashion season.
